The Red, White & Blue

As we celebrate the Fourth of July each year my mind can’t help but create visions of stars and stripes; red, white and blue; sparklers and fireworks; summer barbecues and parades. I see the perfect summer day to celebrate our freedom given to us by the American soldiers.
It’s a time where our country remembers those who have put their lives on the battlefield…those who have sacrificed their lives to give us life and freedom. We remember our grandpas, our uncles and aunts, our brothers and sisters, our sons and daughters. Both young and old. All for our freedom.
But what about Jesus Christ?
Does He come into your thoughts on this holiday?
What about His sacrifice?
Over two thousand years ago at Calvary, Jesus Christ faced the battle of all battles. He was our unblemished lamb. Our sacrifice. It was a turning point for God’s people. John 3:16 says, “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life”.
Eternal life! That is freedom!
It was a time in history when we went from striving to keep the law, to living in God’s constant grace. No more hoops to jump through. No more ladders to climb. Nothing can or ever could, separate us from God’s love.
In Romans 8:38-39 it says, “For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord”.
Jesus Christ came for us!
For our freedom! For eternal life for you and for me. And that’s something we can celebrate every day.
